Project Description

Project Ka Hana Noʻeau is a community-based program comprised of mentorships and an academic support program, Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID). Ka Hana Noʻeau serves the rural districts of North Kohala, Hāmākua, and South Kona of Hawai‘i island. mentoring program funded by Partners in Development Foundation. The program takes place after school and include the following activities:
  1. Rocket Building: Mentor is Alison English
  2. Health & Wellness: Mentor is Debra Toledo-Ebreo
  3. Stream Study: Mentor is Steve Hanks
  4. Printmaking: Mentor is Lisa Anderson
  5. Cultural Journalism: Mentor is Jamie Hirai.
Ka Hana Noʻeau has developed engaging mentorship programs for Hawaiian youth that meld traditional and contemporary knowledge in support of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM). Our place based activities will reinforce positive experiences for our youth residing in these rural communities. Our children are the community’s treasures and represent our future leaders.

Ka Hana No‘eau seeks to nurture the potential within our youth and to help broaden their perspectives on positive and sustainable choices. It is also recognized that traditional values and culture of Hawai‘i are vital qualities that must be present in the in the program and curriculum.
